Banana Nutella Waffles: Fancy Up Your Breakfast

Bananas and Nutella are a match made in heaven, and they're not just for crepes — this combo makes a great waffle, too.

Bananas and Nutella seem made for each other, like peanut butter and jelly, or wine and cheese, or unicorns and rainbows. The flavors work together without either overpowering the dish.

You’ve probably heard of banana-Nutella crepes, and those are certainly delicious, but you can get a similar flavor profile by whipping up a batch of these tasty waffles. If you’re messy like me, you might end up with sticky Nutella everywhere while you’re putting it all together. So be it. I give you permission to lick your hands, so long as you wash them right away. Just don’t tell anybody.

Drizzle some Nutella sauce over the top, or load up your banana Nutella waffles with whipped cream. Either way, these babies are perfect for breakfast or dessert. Or both.

Nutella and banana.
Nutella and bananas — a match made in heaven.

Also, maybe lunch.

These waffles are easy enough to make on the regular, but they also seem kind of fancy — enough to serve on special occasions or impress overnight guests. But by all means, there’s no need to wait for the perfect day when you could be eating banana Nutella waffles right now.

Go on — we know you have a jar of Nutella in a cupboard somewhere. Put it to the perfect use!

Banana Nutella Waffles

Banana Nutella Waffles are easy enough for everyday, but fancy enough for special occasions.

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs (beaten)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup Nutella
  • 2 bananas (diced)

Nutella Sauce

  • 1/2 cup Nutella
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  1. Heat up your waffle iron according to manufacturer’s instructions.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and baking powder.

  3. Heat up the Nutella and butter together until the butter is melted and the Nutella is soft (we used the microwave).

  4. Mix the Nutella and butter into the dry ingredients, then pour in the eggs and milk. Stir until just combined.

  5. Add bananas and stir only enough to distribute the pieces.

  6. Pour batter into the waffle maker and cook until golden, about 5-6 minutes depending on your waffle iron.

For the Nutella Sauce

  1. Warm Nutella in the microwave until soft.

  2. Stir in milk until well blended.

  3. Pour it all over your banana Nutella waffle.
